Knavesmire Wood originated as an 18th century parkland planting, centred on an avenue of lime trees. Typical plants to found in the woodland include ivy, bramble, herb Robert, wood dock, enchanter’s nightshade, wild arum, male fern and broad buckler fern. This site is also important for woodland birds with typical species including great spotted woodpecker, tawny owl, chiffchaff, garden warbler
